I just moved to Billings from the Vail Valley and I think RL is great when they have snow. I went in late March of 2008 when they had a series of dumps-the skiing was very good and pretty challenging. Contrasted to the other time I went during Jan when the skiing was pretty poor with nothing on Cole Creek open.

Cole Creek has tight steep glades and chutes and forces you to ski the fall line. RL lacks open bowls, and obviously the Palisades chair needs to be put at the base where it can do some good.

I liked the Bierstube as well-very friendly locals scene. The town is nice as well. The best thing about RL is it only an hour easy drive from Billings.

I am looking forward to next season. I was very pleasantly surprised!

"A diamond in the rough!" No ski area I've been to better epitomizes this statement. Skiing there at the end of March was great. Yes, they had lift troubles but once new owners spend some money, I would expect this little mountain to go crazy. Best thing about Red Lodge Mountain is the town of Red Lodge itself. No other ski area in the Rockies has as much character without the pretense that comes with places like Vail, Aspen, Sun Valley or Jackson.
By the way, had an unbelievable dinner at "Bridge Creek" right downtown. The locally-raised beef and fresh seafood blew us away and Peter, the owner, really knows his wines. Don't tell him though, or he'll raise his unbelievably low prices. Great skiing, great locals, great wine. Need I say more?

I think maybe RLM should of put that Back 40 detatchable chair right in front of the Stube. When the Midway Express chair is down it really sucks to half to go all the way to the bottom and ride that 15 min. chair that all the dweebs ride just to get back to the Grizzly Peak chair. When I was there the week of 3/17/08 they had 6" of new snow one day and 5" the next and still never ran that Back 40 detatchable anyway. Never the less, don't tell anyone about RLM. It seems to be one of the last vestabules of sanity in a ski world gone mad with greedy pig owners.

Wow how can I explain my most recent trip to the mountain. Let's just say SCARY!!! The best part was the moodlighting at the Bierstube (when the power was out) The worst part was waiting over an HOUR to be rescued from the chairs, because the POWER went OUT! There have been two times in my life when I have had to be rescued from a chair. Unfortunatly BOTH times have been in Red Lodge. Will I ever bring my self to go back? Only time will tell. That is the nice thing about time. It does heal wounds. The question is..... does Red Lodge have enough time for 'time' to heal this wound? I hope they discover the fountain of youth.... For Red Lodge's sake.....

I love Redlogde Mountain! I have been riding for 15 years and my mom and dad would take me there when I was 5. We have very good snowmaking equipment and I have seen a great improvment with the coverage of man-made snow. I think those of us who love REAL snow should pray to the mountain gods that they dump on Redlogde! There is nothing like riding in fluffy drifts of powder. I was hoping when I got my season pass this year they would tell me Lazy M would be open on December 1st, instead they told me they hope to have Turnpike open. I know they will do there best to get M open soon. I really wish they had snowmaking equipment on the backside and also had a high speed quad from the bottom to the top of Grizzly Peak. Less chair lift time would be great!
Overall, I feel blessed to be 1 hour away and be able to get to a mountain with snow (even if it is man-made). It is nice to just get out and get some fresh air and relieve some stress. I have been to Big Sky and Bridger many times (they too have ruff times with their snow). They are great places too but a long drive from billings. It pretty much spoils you going to Big Sky. But then you really do see several people who reek of richness and they let it be known! Can anyone say,"STUCK UP!"
The people in Redlodge and on the Mountain make Redlodge Ski resort a great place for family fun sking and snowboarding.

thankyou redlodge mountain for all you do to keep all us skiers and snowboarders happy! Us passholders really appreciate it!
Things could be worse! We may not even have a ski/snowbaord mountain 10 years from now! I think we all better enjoy what we have while we have it. Its getting warmer and warmer every year and shorter and shorter winters!

Please let it snow!

I need to respond to the rock dodge dude. Up until about the first part of February, I think RLM had the best snow out of the 3 E. Moatanas (B.S., Bridger & RLM). I went to Bridger when they claimed they had 36" of snow, it was 12" in the trees and 3" on the runs at best (never blame the starving though), at least RLM nevered lied. Big Sky wasn't even in the picture at the time, I dare you to ask.
I hold a season pass at RLM, why you ask???? Well for about $300 if you purchase it early, one can quickly find themselves skiing for free, isn't that the idea? I have never ski'ed the backside bottom of RLM.
Doesn't matter! I've been skiing rock dodger dude and not complaining. RLM is a great place here in Eastern Montana, I always wish snow upon them.
Remember when in Rome buddy.
If you can't fix your own ski's, I'll do it for a beer and a good conversation.
RLM is close and I like to ski, isn't that the point? Last Saturday was the best day of the year so far.

More like ROCK DODGE!!! Be careful, and watch out for the exposed rocks and tree stumps/branches. I have had to opportunity to spend most of my skiing experience at Red Lodge and I will be the first one to tell anyone that there are other places to ski.

The best part of Red Lodge was the back side of the mountain, because of the trees that kept the snow unexposed to the sun and wind. That all change years ago when they decided to expand and open the back side. Not to mention the lift ticket prices changing drastically after the expansion. I guess it is expected to see higher lift ticket prices after an expansion. Since the expansion there has only been a handful of years that their has been enough snow on the back side of the mountain to open it up.

It never fails, there is always a huge snowfall after the mountain closes down. Everyone says: too bad it couldn't have happened a month earlier. Trust me when I tell you that you will not lose any sleep if you decide not to go to Red Lodge. If you do go do yourself a favor and bring your rock skis or rent some. The price you would pay for in repair of your skis is not justified by the price of a lift ticket.

I will say the town of Red Lodge is a fun place. After a day of dodging rocks and debris on the runs, you will find Red Lodge as a great place to wind down. Go to Bogarts and have a pizza and then mozy on down to Snow Creek Saloon and tip a few back. Run over to Bridger Bowl near Bozeman, MT the next day to enjoy some real skiing!! Have fun.

MUST have breakfast at The Red Lodge Cafe! The Pancakes are world class!

Lunch at Midway is O.K. the views make up for lack of menu, Bierstube is much better.

Lazy M is my favorite run. Especially on the weekends when the midway express chair is open.

Red Lodge has been a Family tradition since 1988. In that time we have seen many great changes to RLM. Family Favorites have been:

1. Yodeller Motel : Your room door goes directly outside but the steam baths and hot tub are great.

2. Old Piney Dell at Rock Creak Resort : Awsome.

3. Bogart's Margarita's

4. Jagermeister Shot's at Snow Creak!!

5. Best of All The Spring Carnival. Watching Cardboard and Duct Tape slide down Show Off Alley is the best!
